About EMDR Therapy Intensives

EMDR Intensives help you to move to full resolution more quickly, so that you can be more productive and engaged in your life. With the effectiveness of EMDR therapy, the Intensive approach allows you to dedicate days, rather than months, to focus on your healing and growth. With extended sessions, less time between meetings, and an individualized treatment plan, the intensive format allows for accelerated healing, fostering more profound change.

Who do you primarily help?

I help clients who feel “stuck” or limited in their current functioning or by their emotional distress. My expertise includes working with persons impacted by trauma, including abuse, emotional neglect, grief & loss, single-incident, complex, and pre-birth traumatic experiences. Anxiety or panic, excessive worry, feeling numb or disconnected, flashbacks, sleep problems, avoidance, and irritability are common symptoms for which one is seeking relief through EMDR Intensives.

Why EMDR Intensives?

When I started offering EMDR intensives I noticed a dramatic increase in client’s capacity to process traumatic experiences and improvement in their emotional wellbeing. The intensives are highly focused and concentrated so that less time is spent managing the traumatic material week to week. Instead, they provide targeted relief so that you can experience enhanced therapeutic gains, lasting change and freedom in your life.

What to expect in an EMDR Intensive

During the 3-hour sessions, we are working together (with your brain and body!) through the planning and preparation stages of EMDR to help you be more naturally grounded, present and feeling safe. The longer sessions allow us to pace the therapy to feel less over overwhelmed and anxious. We then move into the deeper work, which may include parts work and somatic techniques, to enhance the process. With longer sessions and a condensed format, we are able to move through the processing of traumatic memories with EMDR more readily and to resolution.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. Intensives are helpful for people that want to engage in the healing process of EMDR in a shorter time frame. Many find it beneficial to set aside the time over a two-week time period, rather than every week for months. Further, the longer sessions are often more effective for clients that need more time than a 50-minute session allows to process the trauma.

    2. It is helpful to have an intention or focus for the EMDR Intensive, such as a difficult experience that you would like to process or a goal of what would be different for you if you get the help you need.

    3. EMDR Intensives can be a great adjunct to your current therapy. Perhaps you are feeling stuck, or you have gained valuable insight and tools, feeling ready to dive into more transformative change. I work collaboratively with your therapist to support your needs and healing.

  • A recent traumatic event, prolonged grief, traumatic experiences in childhood or as an adult, a problematic or maladaptive pattern of response or negative belief(s) about yourself that inhibit your relationships or functioning, are some examples

    1. Enhanced processing - The longer sessions provide clients the time to feel safe to fully dive into the traumatic memories without having to stop, manage between sessions, and reset.

    2. Rapid results - The condensed format, with an intentional focus, helps clients move to full resolution more quickly and be less symptomatic enhancing one’s well-being.

    3. Focused and efficient - Life doesn’t get in the way with the Intensive format versus traditional weekly therapy. It’s beneficial for clients with busy or demanding schedules, as well as those that become distracted by daily life challenges.

    4. Serves as an adjunct to current therapy – Perhaps you and your therapist are aware that trauma may be interfering with your progress or you are feeling “stuck” in your current therapy. EMDR Intensives can be the intervention to foster engagement in life and for progress in therapy to resume.

  • It’s helpful to set time aside from work, daily responsibilities, or major decisions. The Intensives are most beneficial when you are intentionally taking time for self-care before and after the sessions. It’s important for your body and brain to have some time to rest, digest, and integrate the important work that you’ve completed after a session.

  • We will develop a personal treatment plan for a 2-day, 3-day, or 4-day Intensive package. The sessions are 3 hours each. These are scheduled over a one to two week period, typically between 9am and 4pm.
